We are thrilled to welcome Certifed Labour Doula, Alii Hesterman to our Family First team! Alii brings with her a shared passion for improving women’s health and feels strongly that we can make a significant impact when we work to improve birth outcomes for women and families here in the queen city. Hello! My name is Alii Hesterman. I am a certified Birth Doula through Birth Ways International. My passion for birth began while I was in university pursuing my degree in Justice. Among all of my Justice classes, I found myself taking multiple woman studies classes for pleasure. It was within these classes the word doula appeared. In 2018 I changed career paths when I conceived my first child. Consequently, I began pursuing a career as a birth doula and left my full-time position in Justice.
Childbirth is unpredictable and can often feel overwhelming at times. I believe the best support for a childbearing mother and her support people involve clear information before the birthing day, open conversation about available choices, empowerment and comfort throughout the birth experience, and a safe network in the early postpartum days.
I hope to build a relationship with trust and respect and make you feel empowered, strong and capable. I am here to help you navigate through all the unknowns. To support you in feeling confident, calm and in control. I will listen to and hear what your needs and desires are and together we will pursue a birthing story you are excited and happy with. My desire and ultimate goal is to help make your birth experience a memory that you will always cherish.

Alii
Alii was our Doula. Alii was a great resource while I was pregnant, when navigating the options I never knew I had medically and Alii was very supportive in any decision my husband and I made. When it came to the birth, we were relieved to have Alii in our corner because the hospital staff tried to push their opinions on us. Being able to take a minute alone to talk things over with our Doula made a world of difference and I felt more in control of my birth story. My husband is also very grateful Alii was there to support him through a long and emotional process. Just her being there gave him a much-needed break.
