COUNSELLING

Improving maternal mental health is our top priority! With 1 in 5 new mothers suffering from a postpartum mood disorder (PMAD) like postpartum depression and anxiety, we feel strongly that finding effective treatment should be easily accessible for new mothers who are struggling.

Postpartum mood disorders are the most common complication of childbirth but more importantly, postpartum mood disorders are temporary and treatable with professional help!

At Family First, we specialize in postpartum social support and filling in the gaps in care women face throughout the entire first year postpartum. Although social support is a very important part of any treatment plan, it’s essential that women receive additional mental health support from a trained provider who can establish a treatment plan that is unique to each woman who comes through our doors.

We are so proud to have Lindsay Gareau, MSW on our team as our in-house counselor. Lindsay received her Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) through the University of Regina and now holds her Masters of Social Work (MSW) through the University of Manitoba. Lindsay has been working directly with families for the last 8 years and feels strongly that early intervention and treatment is an essential part of improving the health of Saskatchewan families. As a mother of two herself, she knows the challenges women face during the perinatal period and is committed to providing professional counseling support through the lens of motherhood.

Lindsay is passionate about her continued education in this field and has recently completed a 2-Day Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders Training- Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders: Components of Care through Postpartum Support International
